What The Flora!? Video series
The Challenge.
The Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney needed an edgy, engaging social media campaign that ticked a few boxes:
- Showcase the garden’s scientific research in a way that everyday people found fascinating - without fluffing the facts.
- Educate people on the important role plants play in our lives.
- Raise awareness that The Royal Botanic Gardens is Australia’s oldest scientific institution and not just a public garden and profile plant scientists.
- Support the Development Team to achieve their fundraising objectives and help raise awareness of the new Australian Institute of Botanical Science.
Our Approach.
Creating an irreverent, edgy and upbeat name for the series, What The Flora!? We set the tone for the scripting and narrative of this series, ensuring we present the work and research of the Royal Botanic Gardens in an entertaining way.
To carry our series, we wanted to build a brand around a Royal Botanic Gardens’ team member. Much like a Dr. Karl-style character, we wanted a host who would bring the content to life with their natural enthusiasm and energy for all things plants. The host needed to be self-aware, speaking plainly and using playful language to explain what could otherwise be dense or confusing information.
Produced as an explainer-style informative video featuring a range of media styles and formats, filmed footage, motion-graphic animations, existing images and illustrations.
Filming took place across three days, capturing the host, expert interviews and footage showcasing all the gardens, scientists and laboratory work.
The Result.
We produced a colourful, exciting and informative video series featuring a range of media formats, from filmed footage to animations, existing images and illustrations.
The five-part series was produced entirely in house and shared extensively across the Royal Botanic Garden’s social channels.
